USA vs. Japan: Women’s World Cup Watch Party

The United States faced Japan in the Women’s World Cup Final on Sunday, and the KC Live! Block was full of American spirit. Fans had lots of reasons to celebrate, especially after the U.S. scored four goals in the first 15 minutes!

Pregame festivities included a dance contest and giveaways from FC Kansas City’s KC Crew. Nate Bukaty from Sports Radio 810 got the crowd pumped up by leading “USA” and “I Believe That We Will Win” chants from the stage. After the win, confetti was launched and DJ Lazer kept the festivities going by playing songs like “All I Do Is Win” and “Turn Down for What”.

We think it’s safe to say Kansas City proved it’s still the Soccer Capital of America.

A big shout out to our partners, Sporting Kansas City, FC Kansas City, Win for KC and 810 Sports Radio for helping bring the watch party to life.

A Weekend Recap

It was a busy weekend here at the KC Live! Block! We welcomed Craig Wayne Boyd on Thursday at Hot Country Nights and The Kongos joined us on Friday for our Friday Night Live series.

Craig Wayne Boyd is best known for winning Season 7 of the singing competition, The Voice, and he definitely did the show justice! His fans who refer to themselves as the “Yallers”, filled the block with their support. To get the crowd pumped Sara Morgan, Boyd’s opener, sang covers like “Toxic” by Britney Spears. Craig Wayne Boyd was extremely excited to be playing at the block, and he even told us so!

The party continued Friday night with Kongos. The Kongos, which consists of four brothers, rocked the crowd with their popular song “Come with Me Now” along with many other smash hits. Kangaroo Knife Fight, a favorite local band, also did not disappoint. We had the chance to sit down with the band and ask them some questions before they performed. Here’s what went down…

Kangaroo Knife Fight:

Q: How did your name come to be?

A: “The name is my fault. Before our singer, Anthony even moved here from Australia me and Gus were talking about band names we liked and how band names are so hard because all cool names are taken and I thought maybe there is some cool Australian slang term that we don’t know that we could use and then Kangaroo Knife Fight came out of my mouth,” said Brandon, guitar player.

Q: What is each of your guys’ favorite show?

A: “Sometimes size is fun but I had a really good time at the Shark Bar. It seemed kind of intimate, people were really close to us and we like to be close to the crowd, that was a good one,” said Gus, bass player.

A: “I think the acoustic set that Anthony and I did for the 96.5 the Buzz at Boulevardia. We did an acoustic set and Anthony kind of just plopped down off the stage and sat with people and so I sat on the side of the stage. So it was just kind of a fun atmosphere. Being close to the people and having fun, Anthony sings better when he is close to the people,” said Brandon.

A: “I’ve only done a few shows with this band so I’m going to go ahead and call it that tonight will be it,” said Kangaroo Knife Fight’s new drummer, Anthony.

#HCNKC Dan + Shay

Thursdays have been heating up! The Miller Lite Hot Country Nights are back and in full swing. Last Thursday Dan + Shay took the stage or should we say took over Kansas City Live! Not only did they sing some of their top hits like “19 You + Me” and “Nothin’ Like You”, they also pleased the crowd with cover songs from other popular artists. Crowd favorites were “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran and “Red Dirt Road” by Brooks & Dunn. There was no doubt that Dan + Shay did all of these songs justice.

fb2    Fans couldn’t have been more thrilled to have Dan + Shay back again at Kansas City Live! after performing at last year’s Downtown Hoedown. You could say Dan + Shay were extremely excited about the turn out as well!

fb3 The crowd was already energized during opening acts Marianne Michaels and Roman Alexander. Both artists gave great performances and really set the tone for Dan + Shay.

Hopefully the pair will be back for many more electric shows in the future! Until then keep joining us and our friends from Q104 KC on Thursdays for Hot Country Nights. Next week: Craig Wayne Boyd.

Recap: Chase Rice #HCNKC

Thursday night was certainly a Hot Country Night to remember at the KC Live! Block as Chase Rice had one of his all time best performances in his life. The block was filled with thousands of diehard country music fans, ready to see one of our country’s hottest rising stars today.

The song writer of the very famous country single “Cruise”  tweeted to his fans within 10 minutes of walking off stage, “Kansas City y’all just gave me goosebumps. Not lying, best show we have EVER had hands down. Thank you for a night I’ll never forget.”

Thank you, Chase Rice, for putting on one heck of a show for Kansas City!

Buzz Under The Stars Night One

Spring is in the air and that means concert season is here. Last night we kicked off our concert season with Buzz Under The Stars Night One with Grouplove, MS MR, Smallpools and Max Frost. What a way to kick off the season. By 6 p.m. KC Live! was a packed house.

Performing his hit single, White Lies, Max Frost took the stage first, followed by Smallpools.  Next up was MS MR. Lizzy Plapinger (female vocalist) blew us away. She not only has fantastic vocals, but can put on one heck of a show.

Next up was Grouplove, who once again, did not disappoint. After performing at KC Live! last year and putting on an incredible show, it seemed impossible to top, but yet again, the sweet sounds of the indie rock band were impressive. One of the highlights was when MS MR, Smallpools and Max Frost joined Grouplove for a dance party on stage. The energy was unreal.

If you saw the show, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. What a start to another awesome concert season ahead of us! Be sure to send over a few compliments to 96.5 The Buzz, Miller Lite and Sporting KC for an awesome Buzz Under The Stars show. We can’t wait for #BUTS2.

Don’t miss our upcoming shows at KC Live! This Saturday, May 3rd, Fitz And The Tantrums with Night Terrors of 1927 take the stage. Then join us Saturday, May 17th for Buzz Under The Stars Night Two with Foster The People, Twenty One Pilots, NONONO, St. Lucia and Hunter Hunted.
